Sale of Devoran Old School

Devoran Action Group have organised a Emergency Public Meeting on Monday 1st February at 7.30pm, in Devoran Village Hall and has invited residents, parliamentary candidates, representatives from Feock Parish and Cornwall Councils to discuss the imminent sale of Devoran Old School.

As a group it believes that the site should provide accommodation to suit the needs of the community, within the heart of the village and is an opportunity for Cornwall Council to demonstrate its support for local communities.

Any interested parties are very welcome to attend.

LAST CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY!

YOU NEED TO REGISTER YOUR OBJECTION
BY THE 12 NOVEMBER
IF YOU WISH TO STOP THE OLD VILLAGE SCHOOL BEING DEVELOPED FOR PRIVATE RESIDENCES.

Dear Devoran Resident

The attached letter is intended to assist you, should you wish to object to the planning application made by the Diocese to entirely convert the Old School at the heart of our village to private residences.

The Parish Council, through the proposals commissioned from the Conservation Studio, have shown how a more balanced mix of uses in the Old School buildings could maintain a social, education & economic resource for the village as well as involving a reasonable proportion of residential accommodation.

The letter attached, should you choose to use it is the only chance the village has to oppose the plans of the Diocese and keep the Old School as a valued part of our community. All members of a household may separately object.

We urge you to either:

Print your name and address at the top of the letter and sign it and the bottom

Or

Write to the addressee indicated in your own words

If you would find it difficult to get to the post office in the next week, you would be very welcome to drop off your signed letter by 12 November, to any of the addresses given below, where members of the DAG will be delighted to forward all such mail on your behalf:

4b Tremayne Close 5 Belmont Terrace
15 St Johns Terrace ‘Suhaili’ Greenbank Road

So…by this weekend, please take the time to make a stand for the community of Devoran; action your letter of objection NOW!

Dear Karl Roberts
DEVORAN OLD VILLAGE SCHOOL, MARKET STREET, DEVORAN, TRURO
Conversion of redundant primary school buildings into residential & live/work units

OBJECTION TO PLANNING APPLICATION No. PA07/1931/07/G

I wish to register my objection to the planning application by the Diocese of Truro, for the redevelopment of the Old School at Devoran. These proposals were exhibited at Devoran Parish Church between 14 -22 July 2007 as part of a cursory and limited consultation exercise.

In my view the Diocesan proposals, which are overwhelmingly residential in nature, do not represent the best interests of the community of Devoran. They are contrary to the recently published Parish Plan and The Planning Brief commissioned by Feock Parish Council and The Conservation Appraisal and Management Strategy commissioned by Carrick District Council.

I believe the proposals represent a wasted opportunity to develop a sustainable social, cultural and economic and educational asset for the village and its citizens.

I also wish to express my broad support for the plans produced by The Conservation Studio on behalf of Feock Parish Council. These balanced proposals were exhibited and presented at a public meeting held in Devoran Village Hall on 19 September 2007, attended by approximately 150 residents. At this meeting a motion was carried unanimously, objecting to overwhelming residential use of the Old School Site.

I believe that a public building of this stature should largely remain in public ownership for the benefit of the community of Devoran.

Yours sincerely,

Information on village meeting about Old School Development plans

A meeting was held last night (publicised by notes on telegraph poles)
concerning the proposed development of the Old School and the residents
reaction to that.  At the meeting a new steering group called the Devoran
Action Group was formed of which I was elected one of 6 officers with a
brief to set up a community association and in particular to try to
reflect the residents opinions on the proposed development.

The next meeting open to the public is at the Sunday School of Devoran
methodist chapel at 20.00 16th October 2007

your sincerely
